Kingdom of L'Anse-Saint-Jean

Tennessee was the last state to join the Confederacy before the American Civil War. The state's secession was unpopular in much of East Tennessee, including Scott County. Shortly after the war, residents voted to declare the county independent of Tennessee, and it became a Southern Unionist enclave. Governor Isham G. Harris sent 1,700 soldiers to quash its secession, but the troops were repelled. Its independence was not officially repealed until over a century later. 1861-1986

State of Scott

Eleven days after the secession of Macedonia (now named North Macedonia) from Yugoslavia, residents of this village almost unanimously voted to become independent from Macedonia.
